How It Happened
Lebanon Valley's
Sammy Bost delivered a goal with 1:33 remaining in the first overtime to send the Dutchmen past Gettysburg 1-0 in the 2016 opener at Herbert Field on Saturday afternoon. LVC improved to 1-0, while the Bullets dropped to 0-1.
With just under two minutes remaining, a Gettysburg turnover near midfield allowed the Dutchmen to switch to offense with numbers. A few seconds later,
Johnna Garbrick sent a nifty pass over the defenders where Bost was waiting. The senior captain juked out the Bullets' goalie and ripped the ball at the open net and sank it for the game-winning tally.
In the first half, both teams couldn't seem to get anything going offensively with both defenses shutting the opposing offensive attacks down. There were more chances in the second half, but neither team was able to get a goal across, forcing an extra period. In the opening overtime period, each team saw just one good opportunity until Bost and Garbrick finished off the Bullets with just over a minute and a half to go.
