How It Happened
Lebanon Valley used a well-balanced performance to earn a 4-0 shutout victory over longtime rival Albright in the team's MAC Commonwealth opener at Arnold Field on Saturday afternoon.
Megan Arnst bookended the offense for the Flying Dutchmen (7-2, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth). She got LVC on the board first by deflecting
Rachel Youngs' attempt past Lion goalkeeper Aileen Taylor following a penalty corner in the 15th minute, before capping the scoring with another deflected penalty corner score off an
Olivia Poltonavage lob in the 67th minute.
With her team leading 1-0 early in the second half,
Brittany Fleisher doubled the Dutchmen advantage when she gathered a rebounded attempt, made a move to her right, and piped her attempt into the right side of the box in the 38th minute.
Casey Dombroski gave LVC some breathing room when she got into the scoring act with 9:28 left to play.
Rachel Gorman inserted a pass on a Lebanon Valley penalty corner which Dombroski corralled and fired past Taylor to make it 3-0 Dutchmen as the final minutes ticked away.
Turning Point
Clinging to a slim one-goal lead early in the second half, LVC got a jolt when
Brittany Fleisher made a pretty move to draw out Albright goalie Aileen Taylor before dashing past her and converting her blast into the right side of the goal. Fleisher's strike was the first of three second-half goals for the Dutchmen, while the Lions were unable to get anything going, offensively.
