How It Happened
Lebanon Valley scored a goal less than two minutes into the game and never looked back en route to a 3-1 victory Susquehanna on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action. The Dutchmen improved to 4-1, while the River Hawks fell to 1-4-1.
Just one minute and 49 seconds into the match, LVC was awarded a corner kick.
Austin Freeman delivered a strong kick into the box and
Rob Hanosek jumped higher than any Susquehanna defender and timed his jump perfectly to send the ball into the back of the net for the early Dutchmen lead.
Later, right at the 20-minute mark, the River Hawks thought an LVC foul should've been called, but the Dutchmen smartly kept playing and
Matt Prince sent a ball into the box where Hanosek was there to strike it past the goalie for the 2-0 LVC advantage. The Dutchmen held the two-goal lead heading into halftime.
Early on in the second half, LVC took a three-goal lead when
Cam Alexander was standing just outside of the box all alone and bent the ball nicely with his left foot and into the left side of the goal off an assist from
Austin Freeman.
Susquehanna added a late goal, but for the most part, the Dutchmen played terrific defense, led by their junior goalkeeper
Cam Avery. Avery made several terrific saves on the day, but video of his best save can be seen below.
