How It Happened
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. –
Sammy Bost delivered a goal for Lebanon Valley early in the second overtime to complete the Dutchmen's comeback and send LVC past DeSales 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action. The Dutchmen jumped to 3-1, while the Bulldogs slipped to 4-2.
Down by a 2-1 score in the 88th minute in the second half, a failed clear from a DeSales defender opened the door for Bost, who received the ball about 10 yards outside of the box and drilled it upper 90 on the far post to tie the contest at 2-2 and eventually send the game into overtime in thrilling fashion.
After neither team could score in the first overtime, in the second overtime Bost was in the opponent's box in the 102nd minute and the captain dribbled through the defense off a throw in and kicked it past the goalie's right side to give LVC the incredible double overtime victory.
The Bulldogs were the first time to find the back of the net when Gabby Lucchese shot a ball in the 35th minute that hit off
Taylor Reinhold's hands and into the net for the 1-0 lead that DeSales held on to heading into the halftime break.
The Dutchmen finally struck in the 60th minute when Bost netted her first goal of the afternoon when she knocked in a loose ball off a corner kick. The Bulldogs then went ahead in the 84th minute when Meghan Williams scored on a loose ball. LVC's defense was stellar throughout the rest of the match as
Emmie Santoleri,
Katie Goldsmith,
Taylor Kleeschulte,
Kristin Robeson,
Lea Dungan,
Kristina Gorton,
Kira Pushart, and
Laura Zimmermann all played stout defense down the stretch.
