How It Happened
Lebanon Valley scored two goals in the final eight minutes to complete the comeback in the team's 3-2 victory over Lynchburg on the campus of Eastern Mennonite University on Wednesday night, Sept. 13.
With the game tied 2-2 and less than four minutes remaining,
Isabella Vulopas gathered a pass from
Maddie Fox and put her shot passed Hornets' goalkeeper Beka Hess for what proved to be the game winner in the 66th minute.
Megan Arnst corralled a loose ball and netted the equalizer just moments before Vulopas put the Flying Dutchmen (4-1) ahead for good, erasing a one-goal deficit Lynchburg (2-2) held for nearly the entire second half in the 62nd minute.
LVC fell behind for the first time just three minutes into the second half following a Hornet penalty corner when Karissa LeMaire scored her second marker of the game off assists from Keely Lunsmann and Kayla Copeman.
With her team trailing 1-0, LeMaire erased the early deficit and converted her first score of the evening when she possessed a ball between a scramble of defenders in front of the left post and found the back of the box in the 33rd minute.
After 29 scoreless minutes, Fox put the Dutchmen on the board first when her shot from the top left of the circle found its way through a defensive gaggle and past the Lynchburg keeper off an assist by
Rachel Gorman less than six minutes before the break.
Turning Point
When
Megan Arnst managed to corral a loose ball and fire her attempt into the top right corner of the cage with 7:38 left to play, it tied the score at 2-2, halted the Lynchburg momentum, and gave LVC new life it wouldn't squander down the stretch.
One-Goal Wonders
