How It Happened
Stevenson got off to a fast start and never let up in the team's 13-5 win over Lebanon Valley at Arnold Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs (12-4, 7-0 MAC Commonwealth) jumped out to a 4-0 first quarter lead and the Flying Dutchmen (9-5, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth) were forced to play catch up the rest of the way.
Trailing 6-0 early in the second period, LVC got on the board when a Stevenson turnover led to an
Alex Bushong strike on the other end off an assist by
Max Warmingham at the 10:47 mark.
The Mustangs pushed their advantage back to six by netting the next two markers but
Brett Kudlak's man-up goal off
Koty Keefer's find following a
Jeremy Beaver face-off win gave the Dutchmen some life heading into the break.
Lebanon Valley came out hot to start the second half, scoring the first two goals of the third quarter. Keefer cut the deficit to 8-3 when he charged toward net and finished at point-blank range at the 11:40 mark before Kudlak made a nice pass to
Klayton Garman who converted his attempt on the team's next possession.
LVC couldn't take advantage of a Stevenson un-releasable two-minute penalty midway through the quarter and the Mustangs swung the momentum back in their favor by scoring the last two goals of the period to take a 10-4 advantage into the final 15 minutes.
Jacques Mercer capped the game's scoring when he sniped a shot past Stevenson goalkeeper Tyler Steinberg off a
Koty Keefer look with less than a minute remaining.
