How It Happened
Lebanon Valley scored five goals in the fourth quarter to complete a 9-8 come-from-behind victory at Albright and clinch a playoff spot on Tuesday night.
Koty Keefer and
Brett Kudlak each recorded hat tricks and
Matt Torrence netted the game-winner to fuel the Flying Dutchmen (10-5, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth) to a key conference victory over their longtime rivals.
Torrence's tally came with 1:51 left to play and gave LVC a two-goal advantage that proved valuable as the Lions (6-9, 5-3 MAC Commonwealth) were able to sneak one past goalkeeper
Cameron Epple with 1:21 remaining.
Trailing 7-5 with less than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Dutchmen offense roared to life behind scores from Kudlak at with 9:54 remaining, back-to-back markers by Keefer at the 8:55 and 6:04 marks, and Torrence's conversion in the final minutes.
LVC led 4-3 at halftime but Albright scored three straight goals, capped by James Egleston's strike with 2:33 left in the third quarter, to take a 6-4 advantage into the 15 minutes.
Jacques Mercer got Lebanon Valley on the board first when he found the back of the net just 1:02 into the contest. The Lions scored two straight to pull ahead 2-1 but Kudlak and
Klayton Garman beat Albright goalkeeper Ryan Aler to put the Dutchmen back in front as the first quarter ended.
Keefer converted his first score of the night early in the second period and LVC wouldn't find twine again until Kudlak recorded a man-up goal 35 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Playoff Positioning
With their most recent victory, the Dutchmen clinched a berth in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Postseason Tournament. LVC currently sits third in the league standings behind Stevenson and Widener and a half-game ahead of Messiah.
