How It HappenedFORT PIERCE, Fla. – Lebanon Valley took one of two from Marywood in a double header on Monday afternoon in the Dutchmen's second and third games in Florida. LVC now sits at 2-3, while the Pacers are 1-1.
Game OneTimely hitting and solid pitching was the story in the opening game. The Dutchmen were led by Marshall Kiessling and
Brett Fundell, who each recorded two hits while Kiessling scored two runs and Fundell added two RBI. In the second inning, Fundell doubled home Kiessling to make it 2-1 and then in the third,
Philip Berry reached on an error to score
Zac Edwards and make it 2-2. Later in the third, Kiessling roped a triple to the warning track to plate Berry, and Fundell singled down the left field line, scoring
Matthew Smarkanic to make it 4-2. LVC's fifth ran also came in the third when
Colin Albright hit a single down the left field line that scored Smarkanic.
After Marywood scored two in the top of the first, the Pacers were held off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game thanks to outstanding work on the mound from
Casey Wall.
Wall pitched a complete game, surrendering just two runs while striking out seven batters.
Game TwoIn the nightcap, the Dutchmen struggled to find its offense but had some chances along the way. LVC loaded the bases in the sixth but was unable to push any runs across the board. The only run of the game came in the bottom of the third when the Pacers' Matt Staback hit an RBI-single.
Fundell added two more hits in the second game, while Edwards and
Zach Smith added one each.
Jacob Williams was stellar from the mound, but took the tough loss. He threw six innings and gave up just a run while striking out four and walking none.
Who's Next?LVC's Florida trip continues tomorrow when the Dutchmen head to Vero Beach, Fla. for a double header with Bridgewater State University. Game one is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
