How It HappenedGlenn Dietrich hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to give Lebanon Valley a narrow 8-7 victory over Maine-Presque Isle on Tuesday afternoon at McGill Field. The win is the Dutchmen's fifth straight and it evened their record to 10-10, while the Owls fell to 4-14 on the season.
In the bottom of the ninth with the game tied at 7-7,
Greg Orlando led off the inning with his fifth hit of the day, a single down the left field line. After
Tyler Mathe pinch ran for Orlando,
Tregg Liebel reached on a bunt single. After
Marc Seibert followed by reaching on an error, Dietrich came up and crushed an 0-2 pitch to right center to score Mathe and win the game for the Dutchmen in walk-off fashion.
LVC put the first runs of the day on the board in the bottom of the first when
Colin Albright hit a sacrifice fly to score
Zac Edwards. Then in the bottom of the second,
Zach Smith singled to score Marshall Kiessling and
Ross Drawbaugh later reached on a fielder's choice to plate Orlando to make it 3-0.
In the fourth, the Dutchmen extended the lead with a Josh Marcelli RBI-double, a Z. Smith RBI-single, and when Edwards reached on a fielder's choice to make it a 6-0 game after four innings of action.
To Presque Isle's credit, the Owls didn't quit and scored two in the seventh to cut their deficit to four at 6-2. In the eighth, Presque Isle added four more runs to tie things up at 6-6. After Albright was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth to score Dietrich, Matt Curry doubled to right center in the top of the ninth to tie the game yet again at 7-7.
At the Plate - Orlando finished a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored.
- Kiessling ended up with three hits and two runs scored, while Z. Smith added two hits and two RBI.
- Albright chipped in two RBI and Edwards compiled two hits and an RBI.
On the Mound - Starting pitcher
Jared McCabe was stellar on the mound but was unfortunately dealt the no-decision. He tossed five innings and gave up two hits, no earned runs, and struck out four Owls.

Nathan Smith (3-0) pitched the final 1.1 innings and earned the win.
