How It HappenedREADING, Pa. – Marshall Kiessling drove in five runs and
Michael Houseal pitched into the eighth inning as Lebanon Valley racked up 13 hits en route to a 10-4 defeat of Albright on Thursday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth baseball action. The Dutchmen picked up their first conference win of the season and sit at 7-10, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth, while the Lions dropped to 3-10, 0-4 MAC Commonwealth.
Albright struck first when Noah Beebe singled through the left side in the bottom of the first, however Houseal settled down from there and the offense came alive scored 10 consecutive runs from the second to the eight inning. In the second,
Philip Berry hit an RBI-groundout, and then in the fifth, Kiessling broke a 1-1 tie when he doubled to left center to plate
Zac Edwards and
Michael Puglisi.
Later in the fifth inning,
Zach Smith hit a sacrifice fly to center, making it a 4-1 game. Then in the sixth, Berry gave LVC a run with one swing of the bat when he launched a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall. The Dutchmen began to pour it on in the seventh when
Ross Drawbaugh, the Birthday Boy, roped a two-RBI double to right field.
In the eighth inning, Kiessling put the icing on the cake with a double to left center that cleared the bases and gave LVC a 10-1 advantage. The Lions got a few back in the final two innings, but the Dutchmen held on comfortably for the 10-4 win.
On the Mound - Houseal (2-1) was superb in earning his second win of the season. He tossed 7.2 innings and gave up three earned runs while scattering eight hits and striking out five.
Paul Smith threw the final 1.1 innings for LVC.
At the Plate - Kiessling was 3-for-4 with five RBI, while
Colin Albright was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
- Z. Smith and Puglisi each added two hits and Drawbaugh and Berry each drove in two runs.
Who's Next?The Dutchmen welcome Albright to Annville tomorrow for a double header. The first pitch of game one is slated for 12 p.m.
