How It HappenedOWINGS MILLS, Md. – Lebanon Valley hung around throughout its Wednesday evening matchup at Stevenson and eventually took the lead in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat the Mustangs 59-53 in a key MAC Commonwealth women's basketball contest. The Dutchmen improved to 15-7, 9-4 MAC Commonwealth, while Stevenson fell to 12-8, 9-4 MAC Commonwealth.
Down 47-44 with 4:31 remaining in the fourth quarter,
Taylor Umbrell received a pass from
Anne Lehr and drilled a triple to tie the game at 47-47. After a missed jumper by Stevenson's Stephanie Martinez,
Peyton Carper got the rebound and outran everyone for the fastbreak layup that gave LVC its first lead of the game.
The game remained tight in the fourth quarter's final minutes, but in the last minute of action, the Dutchmen were 6-for-8 from the charity stripe down the stretch and they held on for the come-from-behind victory.
It was all Stevenson early on, as the Mustangs jumped out to an 11-0 run with 5:05 left in the first quarter. Stevenson continued to shoot well and continued to feed reigning MAC Commonwealth and ECAC Player of the Week in Sara Tarbert. After one quarter of action, the Mustangs led 23-8 and Tarbert had nearly half of Stevenson's points.
The second quarter was a different story as LVC began to shut down Tarbert and attack the basket. With 5:07 left in the second, Carper hit a jumper to get the Dutchmen out of a double-digit hole at 27-18. That sparked a 9-4 run, and LVC found itself within four points at 31-27 entering halftime.
In the third quarter, Stevenson continued to hold a somewhat comfortable lead until
Alyssa Cirucci hit a fastbreak layup at 6:08 and
Lexie Lantz followed with a jumper to bring the Dutchmen to within two at 35-33 with 5:25 remaining. From there, LVC was unable to take the lead for the remainder of the quarter, but in the fourth, Carper's bucket gave the Dutchmen their first lead of the contest and LVC never looked back.
Top Performances - Lantz paced the Dutchmen with 14 points off the bench.

Taylor Umbrell knocked down all three of LVC's treys and totaled 12 points.

Kiely Chaklos was also in double digits in points with 10 and she added three assists.
Inside the Numbers - The Dutchmen outshot Stevenson 48.1-41.2 percent from the field.
 - The Mustangs held the slight edge in rebounds at 33-25.
 - Once again, the LVC bench was stellar, outscoring Stevenson's 31-11.
 - Alexandria Lehman came off the bench and provided a spark, scoring six points on 3-of-3 shooting in eight minutes of action.
 - Stevenson's Tarbert finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds, but the Dutchmen held every other Mustangs player to nine points or less.
Playoff Bound!With tonight's win, the Dutchmen clinched a MAC Commonwealth playoff berth and are currently tied with Messiah and Stevenson for second place at 9-4. Arcadia, Messiah, and Lycoming are left on LVC's regular season schedule.
