How It Happened
Lebanon Valley led nearly wire-to-wire in the team's 82-68 victory over MAC Commonwealth rival Stevenson at Sorrentino Gymnasium on Wednesday night, Dec. 7.
The Mustangs (1-6, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth) led 5-4 at the 17:01 mark of the first half but when
Sam Light converted a layup in traffic on the other end, the visitors would never see the lead again.
LVC (4-4, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth) broke open a tight contest midway through the opening half when six straight points from
Andy Orr followed by six in a row from Light pushed the Flying Dutchmen advantage from one marker to seven points at the 6:01 mark.
Orr and
Ricky Bugg combined to score LVC's next nine tallies before back-to-back layups from Bugg gave the Dutchmen a comfortable 44-29 lead heading into halftime.
It was more of the same after the break, with Lebanon Valley grabbing its largest advantage of the night when Orr followed up a Light jumper from beyond the arc with a layup off a
Travis Conrad assist to make it 63-41 LVC with 11:31 left to play.
The Mustangs chipped away and eventually pulled to within 12 but key treys from Light and
Marquis Davis off great finds from Orr halted the Stevenson momentum and pushed the Dutchmen advantage to 16 in the closing minutes; a deficit in which the visitors were unable to make a dent.
It Was Over When…
Stevenson cut the deficit to a manageable 12 points with 4:24 to play and seemed to have some semblance of life left in its comeback effort. That changed when
Sam Light buried a jumper from three-point land off a find from
Andy Orr with 3:33 remaining. Mark Terrell converted a layup on the Mustangs' next possession but Orr found
Marquis Davis for another crippling triple on the other end to put the Dutchmen ahead by 16 with 2:47 left, ending all hope of an SU come-from-behind effort.
