How It Happened
LVC dropped a down-to-the-wire 73-67 decision to a tough Hood squad at BB&T Arena on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 10.
The Flying Dutchmen (4-5, 2-3 MAC Commonwealth) played catch up late in the first half and for most of the second but never allowed the hometown Blazers (8-1, 2-1 MAC Commonwealth) breathing room as they mounted a comeback effort down the stretch.
Trailing by as many as 12 points with 11:36 remaining, LVC stormed back and used a 16-5 run over a six-minute span to cut the deficit to 62-61 following a
Sam Light three-pointer following
Will Boccanfuso's steal on the other end.
Close as they came, however, the Dutchmen were unable to draw even or pull ahead in crunch time. Hood went back up by four at the 3:37 mark but an
Andy Orr jumper and a Boccanfuso free throw drew LVC back to within one with 47 seconds left to play.
The Blazers pushed the advantage to five at 69-64 following a Kobe Butler transition layup with 17 seconds remaining but Light's ensuing old-fashioned three-point play made it a one-possession game once again with nine seconds left.
LVC was forced to foul and Hood's Scott Bolen converted a pair from the foul line before a Butler steal with five seconds remaining sealed the slim victory for the home team.
The Dutchmen grabbed their first lead of the day when Light buried a triple in the game's opening moments to make it 6-3 before a 16-4 Hood run gave the Blazers a nine-point advantage midway through the first half.
Lebanon Valley battled back in the final five minutes of the opening half, ending the period on an impressive 16-5 run keyed by treys from Light and
Travis Conrad to draw even at 35-35 heading into halftime.
