OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Lebanon Valley competed at Stevenson in the teams' final meet of 2016 on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 3. The men's squad picked up its second victory of the season with a 100-68 decision over the Mustangs, while the women fell to SU 108-75.
Ian Lloyd, the reigning Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Men's Swimmer of the Week, had another big outing on the men's side, winning three events on the day. The junior earned his first victory of the afternoon in the 200-yard IM, touching in 2:03.48, nearly five seconds faster than Jaq De Leon, the runner-up from Stevenson. He followed it up by topping teammate
Bryce Betz by a second and a half in a good race in the 200-yard backstroke before capping his day by swimming a 2:21.51 in the 200-yard breaststroke, good enough to beat De Leon by almost six seconds.
The men's 200-yard relay team comprised of Betz,
Chris Kurtz,
Michael Ballou, and
Ari Gouskos combined to swim a 1:57.53 in the event, while Kurtz was the only swimmer to brave the 1,000-yard freestyle. He touched in 11:25.19. Kurtz also won the 500-yard free over teammate Jay Ilgenfritz thanks to a time of 5:35.51.
On the women's side, reigning MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week
Julianna Currie was strong. The freshman earned a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.10 before coming home second in the 100-yard free thanks to touching in 1:01.51. She also anchored LVC's 200-yard freestyle relay team that also included
Katie Gingrich,
Kyra Valent, and
Leslie Hiller. The foursome posted a time of 1:54.34 in the event.
The Dutchmen have a long break ahead of them as they won't be back in the pool until the calendar changes to 2017. LVC has five weeks off before they travel to FDU-Florham on Saturday, Jan. 14.
