How It Happened
Lebanon Valley ended Clark's recent five-game winning streak with a 72-62 victory on the final night of the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Thursday night, Dec. 29.
Clinging to a slim four-point advantage with eight minutes left to play, the Flying Dutchmen (8-5) put together a key 8-0 run over the next three and a half minutes sparked by seven consecutive points from
Sam Light that put LVC ahead 66-54 with 4:22 remaining.
The Cougars (8-3) cut the deficit to 10 on two occasions in the final minutes but a jumper by
Ricky Bugg and a pair of field goals from Light ensured that the Lebanon Valley lead never fell into the single digits in crunch time.
The Dutchmen led 37-34 at the break and opened the second half on a 16-9 run that saw
Andy Orr net six points during the seven-minute timeframe before Light capped the span with a three-ball that put LVC up by 10 with 12:58 left.
Clark responded with an 11-5 run that drew the Cougars to within four at the 7:59 mark but the combination of a stingy Dutchmen defense and Light's late-game offense proved too much to overcome down the stretch.
Lebanon Valley trailed just once when John Pisacreta knocked down a trey that put Clark ahead 26-24 at the 7:43 mark of the first half. The Dutchmen quickly responded with a 9-0 run that included buckets by
Collin Moore,
Will Boccanfuso, and Light, as well as three free throws from Orr. Â
