Dutchmen Put A Scare In No. 3 Scranton

How It Happened
Lebanon Valley pushed No. 3 Scranton to the brink, but the Royals eventually pulled away to defeat the Dutchmen 63-52 on Tuesday night in non-conference women's basketball action. Scranton stayed perfect and improved to 11-0, while LVC dropped to 5-6.

Heading into the fourth quarter with the Dutchmen clinging to a 39-38 lead, the Royals went ahead and never looked back, thanks to a 15-1 run that spanned just under six minutes of action and Scranton was ahead 53-40 with 4:43 left in the quarter. LVC cut the lead back down to single digits when Lexie Lantz hit a free throw with 2:35 to go to make it a 56-48 contest, but Scranton went 7-for-8 from the charity stripe down the stretch to take the game by a 63-52 score.

The first quarter was tight as the Dutchmen were keeping pace with Scranton in a low-scoring opening period. The back-and-forth quarter saw the lead change five times and after 10 minutes of action, the game was tied 12-12.

With the Royals up 15-14 at 8:47 of the second, Jasmine Copeland hit a layup followed by a good jumper from Lantz, giving LVC an 18-15 advantage with 7:24 left. The Dutchmen extended the lead to five (22-17) off a jumper from Anne Lehr and Copeland followed with a jumper to make the Dutchmen's lead seven at 24-17 with 2:56 left in the quarter. Their lead got as high as nine at 26-17 and LVC's lead was six at 27-21 heading into halftime.

Inside the Numbers
 - Lehr led the Dutchmen'f offense with 19 points and she added three assists and three steals.
 - Lantz finished with 13 points and eight boards, while Hilary Yoh chipped in eight points and Copeland ended up with nine rebounds.
 - Scranton's Alexix Roman had a game-high 22 points and Bridgette Mann went for 12 points.
 - LVC held the Royals well under their points per game average of 74.9.
 - Scranton outshot the Dutchmen from the floor at 39.6-percent to 36.8-percent.

Who's Next?
LVC is back in action on Dec. 30 when the Dutchmen head to Bethlehem for the Moravian Tournament. LVC will take on Delaware Valley at 12 p.m. before playing either Moravian or Penn St.-Lehigh on Dec. 31.
