How It Happened
FREDERICK, Md. –
Lexie Lantz netted 26 first-half points as Lebanon Valley cruised past Hood 75-53 on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action. The Dutchmen shook off their previous loss to Stevenson and jumped to 5-4, 3-1 MACC, while the Blazers slipped to 3-5, 1-2 MACC.
Lantz had one of the most efficient and memorable first halves in recent women's basketball memory, as the senior forward went 10-for-15 from the floor and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. She also recorded 13 rebounds in the first two quarters to reach the double-double mark.
For the game, Lantz totaled 29 points and 18 rebounds, both career highs.
It was all LVC in the first half as Hood jumped out to a 2-0 lead which would be its only lead of the day, as Lantz followed with two straight buckets to make it 4-2 in favor of the Dutchmen with 6:54 left in the first. LVC kept on scoring and eventually scored 15 points in a row until the Blazers finally made a free throw with 1:49 remaining in the first, however the Dutchmen were up big at 15-3. LVC then responded with an 8-0 run to end the quarter and held a comfortable 21-3 advantage after one quarter of action.
With 8:32 remaining in the second quarter, Lantz brought down a rebound, which was her 10th of the game and incredibly, it gave her a double-double just a minute and a half into the second quarter. The Dutchmen continued to pour it on and were up 50-13 at halftime.
After LVC's led shrunk just a little bit in the third quarter (59-37), the Dutchmen maintained its double-digit lead in the fourth and never let Hood get any closer than 22 points, en route to the 75-53 win.
