This will be the 14th consecutive meeting since the series resumed in 2001 ... The first meeting was Oct. 7, 1983 in Madison, an 18-17 LVC win ... Lebanon Valley's most recent victory was a 56-14 trouncing at Arnold Field last fall ... The Dutchmen are 26-9 against New Jersey teams all time.

Last Year
Lebanon Valley made it look easy when Flying Dutchmen handled FDU-Florham 56-14 on Homecoming Weekend last fall. The LVC defense set the tone early when Zachary Adams strip-sacked Devils' quarterback Joseph McCain at the Florham 47-yard line. John Salcedo pounced on the loose ball and Ryan Fink capped the ensuing drive with a one-yard touchdown run with 8:16 left in the first quarter. The Dutchmen added a second touchdown before the quarter was out when Jon Jones broke a 41-yard run up the gut and rumbled to pay dirt on the team's next possession. Marcus Brown's extra-point made it 14-0 LVC at the 4:33 mark. Lebanon Valley needed just one play on the team's first drive of the second quarter to add to the advantage as quarterback Tim Pirrone hit a wide-open Brendon Irving on a wheel route for 61 yards and touchdown. The next Dutchmen scoring drive was perfectly-executed smash-mouth football as LVC ran the ball eight consecutive times with Irving accounting for 30 yards and Jones racking up 28 and a touchdown from one-yard out with 6:11 left before halftime. The defense got into the scoring act on FDU-Florham's ensuing possession as strong safety Kevin Antol undercut a McCain pass, picked it off, and scampered untouched for a 56-yard touchdown with just over four minutes remaining in the first half. LVC's first drive of the second half was all Irving as the MAC's leading-rusher carried the ball ten times for 61 yards, including a one-yard touchdown run that finished off the possession. The Devils finally got on the board when McCain found wide receiver Dennis Sutton open across the midde for a 20-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter but Lebanon Valley responded with a 10-play, 49-yard scoring drive that ended with Ryan Fink punching the ball across the goal line on fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line. FDU-Florham added a garbage-time touchdown when McCain hooked up with his favorite wideout Malik Pressley for a 60-yard score. Cyree Sutton-Ames' six carries and Tyler Cottle's kneel-down bled out the clock.

Last Week
Lebanon Valley excelled in all three phases in its 28-13 victory over MAC foe Misericordia at Arnold Field on Saturday afternoon, ending a five-game skid in the process. The Dutchmen set the tone early when they marched 68 yards in 15 plays on their opening drive and getting on the board first when Ryan Fink took a handoff from Tyler Sterner, found a crease, and dashed six yards for a touchdown at the 8:04 mark. It was more of the same on LVC's second drive when the offense marched 80 yards in nine plays, keyed by a Brendon Irving 23-yard scamper and capped by Fink's second touchdown run of the afternoon, this time from two yards out with 3:06 remaining in the first quarter. The Cougars cut the deficit in half midway through the second quarter when MU quarterback Jeff Krisiak connected with Josh Dieter in the corner of the end zone when the receiver made a tough touchdown catch against good coverage at the 7:21 mark. Misericordia made another clutch play when the special teams unit thwarted LVC's ensuing 12-play drive when Moses Ulysse blocked a Marcus Brown 32-yard field goal attempt to keep the deficit to one score heading into halftime. Tom Gallagher came up huge and made the first big play of the second half for the Dutchmen defense when he ended MU's opening drive of the second half by sacking Krisiak on a fourth-down attempt from LVC's 24-yard line, giving the ball back to an offense that made the Cougars pay on the ensuing possession. Sterner hooked up with Michael Gaval over the middle for 29 yards, Irving rushed for 16 yards two plays later, and Jon Jones walked untouched into the end zone on the drive's final play from four yards out to increase Lebanon Valley's lead to 21-7 with 7:54 left in the third quarter. Misericordia's first drive of the fourth quarter ended when Tommy Garner picked off Krisiak along the LVC sideline, stopping the Cougars as they moved deeper into Dutchmen territory. Irving made them pay two plays later when he sprinted through a hole in the line, fought off a hamstring cramp, and went 79 yards to score his first touchdown of the season. Gallagher made another great play to shut down an MU drive deep in LVC territory when he made a diving interception of a Krisiak attempt at the Dutchmen 19-yard line with 7:21 remaining. The Cougars added a late touchdown in garbage time but Jacob Whitfield burst through the middle and blocked Matt Dinnocent's extra-point attempt before the Dutchmen took over and ran out the clock to secure their second victory of the season.

It's Over
It took a bit longer than LVC would have liked, but the team finally ended its recent losing skid with a victory over Misericordia last weekend. The five-game skid was the team's longest since the Dutchmen began the 2014 season with five straight losses.

Sterner Settling In
Tyler Sterner has made a strong impression in limited action this season, as the junior quarterback took over duties under center just two weeks ago midway through LVC's contest at Lycoming. He followed it up with his first career start against Misericordia last week. In his three appearances this season, Sterner has completed 57 percent of his passes for 225 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He's also shown poise in the pocket and enough mobility to keep opposing defenses honest. His presence helped the Dutchmen erase a 21-point deficit at Lycoming before he led the team to its first victory in six weeks when Lebanon Valley handled Misericordia last Saturday.

New Favorite Target
With Tyler Sterner taking over under center, he's found a new favorite target in wide receiver Michael Gaval. In the last two weeks alone, the senior has made seven catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Sterner has hooked up with Gaval on seven of his 19 completed passes this season. Statistically, Gaval's best outings this fall have come with Sterner throwing his way.

Linebackers Join the No Fly Zone
The Dutchmen recorded a pair of interceptions in their win over Misericordia last Saturday. Both picks were made by LVC linebackers in Tommy Garner and Tom Gallagher. Garner's interception came early in the fourth quarter when MU quarterback Jeff Krisiak scrambled to his right and tried to throw the ball away. Unfortunately for the Cougars, Garner stepped in front of the throw and was able to corral the pass before falling out of bounds at the LVC 17-yard line. Garner now leads the team with two interceptions. On Misericordia's next possession, the Cougars again moved the ball into Dutchmen territory but this time it was Gallagher making a diving pick across the middle of the field on a third-down attempt that gave the ball back to Lebanon Valley at its own 19-yard line.

Running Down History
The countdown continues. Thanks to back-to-back seasons racking up more than 1,000 rushing yards as a sophomore and junior, tailback Brendon Irving joined former running back and current assistant coach Ben Guiles as the only LVC players to scamper for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons. If Irving becomes the first player in program history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark three seasons in a row, he'll also overtake Guiles as LVC's all-time leading rusher. The senior recorded a season-best 174-yard rushing outing in a win over Misericordia last weekend and moved into second-place on the all-time rushing list with 3,780 career yards. With two games remaining, Irving needs just 145 more to set the program's career record.

Irving's Rush Nominated for D3football.com Play of the Week
Brendon Irving's first touchdown rush of the season was both exciting and gutsy, as the tailback broke through the Misericordia defense and raced 79 yards for the score. As Irving reached the Cougar red zone, he tweaked his hamstring but pushed through the injury and across the goal line to give the Dutchmen a 28-7 advantage and cap the team's longest scoring play from scrimmage this season. For his efforts, Irving's run was nominated for D3football.com's Play of the Week.

Noting LVC's Offense

After struggling during a two-game stretch that saw the Dutchmen score just six points, LVC's offense performed much better against Lycoming and Misericordia the past two weeks. LVC makes its living on the ground and ranks first in the conference in rushing offense with a 214.4 yards-per-game average. Brendon Irving is second among MAC running backs with 717 yards rushing on the year, and the rushing attack got a bit of a boost with the return of fellow tailback Jon Jones from injury two weeks ago. Tim Pirrone has started six of the team's eight games under center but it is Tyler Sterner who has sparked the position, throwing for more than 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns during the team's past two outings. Michael Gaval is the team's leading receiver with 21 catches for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Dylan Berberick is the team's top tight end as he's pulled in five receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown. LVC will look to continue to win the turnover battle after failing to commit one last week. The Dutchmen have thrown 11 interceptions and lost seven fumbles on the season.

Noting LVC's Defense
The Dutchmen defense is surrendering 27 points per game; an average that the unit will continue to look to improve upon. LVC is allowing 373.3 yards of total offense per contest and has forced nine turnovers through eight games. The unit is allowing 185 rushing yards per game, while surrendering 188.3 yards through the air. Strong safety Kyle Murray is the team's leading tackler with 56 stops. He's also added 1.5 TFL, a forced fumble, and five pass breakups on the year. Cornerback Spencer Moser has made 47 tackles, including one tackle for loss, an interception, a fumble recovery, and six pass breakups. Tom Gallagher leads all Dutchmen linebackers with 37 tackles. He also has one interception, a forced fumble, a pair of pass breakups, and two quarterback hurries this fall. Fellow linebacker Alex Trujillo is the team's sacks leader with two, while another linebacker in Tim Schumacher leads the squad with 4.5 TFL. Fefensive end Guy Zimmerman ranks second with 3.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Linebacker Tommy Garner leads all Dutchmen with a pair of interceptions, while Gallagher, Dylan Lobach, and Jermaine McQueen have each forced a fumble this season. Defensive lineman Adam Wagaman. safety Brendan Yetter, and Moser made the recoveries.

Noting LVC's Special Teams
LVC's most potent special teams' weapon through the first eight games has proven to be return man Michael Gaval. He is averaging 20.5 yards per kick return and has racked up 472 total return yards on 23 attempts. Kicker Marcus Brown has seen limited action but is perfect on his three field goal attempts that weren't blocked from 25, 22, and 28 yards out, respectively. Brown has also proved valuable on kickoffs, as he's averaging nearly 60 yards per kick with three of his five attempts resulting in touchbacks. Punter Spencer Moser has pinned opponents inside their own 20-yard line on six occasions and forced five fair catches on the season. Kickoff specialists Nick Bentz and Nick Newton are both averaging more than 50 yards per attempt, with Bentz adding a pair of touchbacks. The Dutchmen have also blocked three extra-point attempts this fall, with Jacob Whitfield, Dylan Lobach, and Anthony Jenkins registering one block apiece.

Scouting FDU-Florham
FDU-Florham is coming off a 50-21 loss at Delaware Valley and has dropped three in a row, surrendering 50 or more points in each of those defeats. The Devils rank third among MAC teams in passing offense but dead last in rushing offense. Quarterback Jagger Green has thrown for 1,351 yards and six touchdowns, while completing nearly 61 percent of his passes. Mike Panzarino has pulled in 59 receptions for 707 yards and two touchdowns, while Essaun Mobley has caught a team-high four touchdown passes to go along with his 38 catches and 535 receiving yards. Robert Young is the team's leading rusher, having gained 311 yards and scoring four touchdowns on 91 attempts. Linebacker Isaiah Turner is the team's leading tackler with 73 total stops. He's added nine tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a pass breakup, and one quarterback hurry. The Cougars have turned the ball over 23 times this fall and are currently minus-11 in turnover margin.

Who's Next?
The Dutchmen end their 2016 campaign by welcoming longtime foe Albright to Arnold Field for the 96th edition of the rivalry on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 12.
