How It Happened
Playing in its first-ever home game at historic Hersheypark Arena, Lebanon Valley's women's ice hockey team was defeated by Sacred Heart University by a 5-0 score on Friday afternoon. The Dutchmen dropped to 0-3-0, while the Pioneers improved to 3-4-0.
In the first period, LVC hung around and saw a few scoring chances, but the Dutchmen' defense and goaltending is what kept them in the first period.
Jillian Moffat was spectacular in the opening period, stopping all 24 shots that she faced, as LVC went into the second period tied with SHU 0-0.
At 13:53 in the second period, however, the Pioneers broke through and scored the game's first tally when Maddie Bishop scored an unassisted goal. In the closing minutes of the middle period, at 18:05, Katie Stueve put SHU ahead by two with a goal from Olivia Bryant. Despite the two goals, LVC was still within striking distance after two periods of action.
While on the power play at 2:37 in the third, Amie Varano put the Pioneers ahead 3-0 and SHU scored just 58 seconds later to go up 4-0. SHU scored again later in the third to make it 5-0 and put the game out of reach for the Dutchmen.
