ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley erased a first-half deficit and held Misericordia under its season-scoring average in the team's 74-63 victory at Sorrentino Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 26.
Misericordia jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, only to see it vanish after a layup from
Anne Lehr put LVC ahead 8-7 with 4:59 remaining in the opening quarter. The Dutchmen then opened up a six-point advantage at 20-14 with 1:20 left thanks to a bucket from
Lexie Lantz, however the Cougars kept it close and scored the quarter's final six points to tie the game at 20-20 after one quarter of action.
The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair that featured several mini runs. Misericordia opened up a five-point lead after Shannon Croasdale hit a jumper to put the Cougars ahead 29-24 at 6:05, but LVC came to within one after Lehr knocked down another jumper with 1:18 to go, making the score 30-29. With Misericordia up 32-29 with 21 seconds to go, Rebecca Evans made a layup and
Jasmine Copeland later stole the ball and Evans hit a jumper as time expired to give the Dutchmen a 33-32 advantage heading into halftime.
LVC kept the momentum going into the third quarter and extended its one-point lead to a seven-point advantage at 48-41 with 1:15 left in the third. At the end of the third, two good free throws from
Hilary Yoh put the Dutchmen up by eight at 50-43, their largest lead of the game at that point, going into the game's final quarter.
The Cougars came crawling back, however, and used an 8-1 run that spanned over two and a half minutes to take another lead at 52-51. A resilient LVC squad answered yet again and Lantz stopped Misericordia's spurt with a good layup to put the Dutchmen ahead 53-52 and LVC never looked back. For the rest of the quarter, Misericordia would come to within a few points, but the Dutchmen always responded with a bucket and never relinquished the lead en route to the 74-63 win.
