How It Happened
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College pulled away from Lebanon Valley in the third quarter en route to a 63-51 win over the Dutchmen in both teams' 2016-17 season opener on Tuesday night.
The game was close in the first quarter after a 
Taylor Troutman jumper tied things up at 7-7 with 4:51 left. The Blue Jays (1-0) ended the opening period on a mini 5-2 run, however, to go into the second with a 12-9 advantage.
A 
Jennifer Eck jumped with 7:47 left in the second quarter brought the Dutchmen (0-1) to within one at 12-11, but an 8-0 run from E-Town extended its lead to nine at 20-11 with 4:06 left in the half. After a three-point play from 
Anne Lehr brought LVC back to within four at 20-16 with 3:06 remaining, the Blue Jays rattled off another run, this time a 10-3 spurt, to go into halftime with a double-digit lead at 30-19.
A big third quarter from the Blue Jays put the game out of reach for the Dutchmen. E-Town led by as much as 25 after outscoring LVC 20-8 in the quarter. The Dutchmen refused to quit though, and kept cutting into the Blue Jays' lead in the fourth. With E-Town ahead 54-28 with 6:49 to go, a 20-7 run that spanned over five minutes of action was capped off by a 
Rebecca Evans trey, which brought the score to 61-48 with 1:27 to go. The clock eventually ran out on the Dutchmen however, despite a valiant comeback attempt.
Top Performers
 - Playing in her first collegiate game, Evans led LVC with 15 points and was 5-for-6 from the charity stripe.
 - 
Hilary Yoh was also in double figures in points with 12, while 
Anne Lehr added nine points and Eck chipped in seven.
 - E-Town's Emily Martin led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting and Abby Beyer added 12 more points for the Blue Jays.
 - 
Lexie Lantz led in rebounds at 11 and Yoh added seven.
Inside the Numbers
 - The Dutchmen went 14-for-21 (66.7 percent) from the free throw line compared to the Blue Jays' 21-for-38 line (55.3 percent).
 - LVC turned 20 E-Town turnovers into 21 points.
Who's Next?
The 12th Rinso Marquette Tournament will take place in Annville this weekend with SUNY-Geneseo, Penn State Harrisburg, and Penn State Altoona paying visits to Sorrentino Gymnasium. LVC will take on Altoona on Friday night at 8 p.m.
