How It Happened
Mark down the date... November 12, 2016. It was a historic evening at Hersheypark Arena for Lebanon Valley's women's ice hockey team. Playing in their inaugural season, the Dutchmen cruised past Post University 5-1 to earn their first-ever victory. LVC jumped to 1-4-0, while the Eagles dropped to 0-3-0.
Midway through the opening period,
Liz D'Ginto weaved her way through two defenders and was hooked, but the penalty didn't stop her, and she found the back of the net via the five-hole to give the Dutchmen the 1-0 lead, which they hung on to after one period of action.
In the second period with LVC killing off a penalty,
Savannah Knoble broke free down the left side for the breakaway and scored for the shorty to make it 2-0 in favor of the Dutchmen. Just over two minutes later,
Nicole Lloyd was in LVC's zone but was able to escape several Post defenders and skated down the left side with a burst of speed. After her shot was saved,
Elaine Tarasiewicz was there for the rebound and the easy goal to give the Dutchmen a 3-0 lead.
Just after midway through the second, Lloyd ripped a shot from the point that went through a screen and into the top shelf of the net off assists from
Eleanor Donaher and
Victoria ByDeley, giving LVC a comfortable 4-0 lead heading into the final period.
With just over three minutes remaining in regulation, the Dutchmen added another, this time on the power play, when D'Ginto scored off a rebound with assists from
MacKenzie Bokina and Donaher. The Eagles added a goal with 13 seconds remaining, but LVC cruised to the 5-1 victory.
