How It Happened
Sammy Bost netted four goals to lead Lebanon Valley to a 5-3 victory over Widener on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth women's soccer action. The Dutchmen picked up their first conference win of the season and improved to 7-4-0, 1-2-0 MACC, while the Pride slipped to 2-7-2, 0-2-0 MACC.
It didn't take long for LVC's offense to break their three-game scoring drought this afternoon. Bost's first goal came just two and a half minutes into action when
Katie Goldsmith send a long pass to Bost who broke away from defenders, creating the breakaway, and found the back of the net for the 1-0 Dutchmen advantage.
A little later, in the ninth minute of play,
Johnna Garbrick slide through the defenders near midfield and sent another long ball to Bost who outran the defense to make another breakaway where she again beat the goalie to make it 2-0 LVC, which is the score that stood for the remainder of the first half.
To Widener's credit, the Pride stayed in the game and just over four minutes into the second, Widener's Kailea Schwartz received a pass from Lexie Slusher inside the box and snuck it past
Taylor Reinhold to cut the deficit to 2-1. 31 seconds later, Brielle Errico was fouled inside the box, resulting in a penalty kick that Errico converted, quickly tying the contest at 2-2.
In the 64th minute, Bost broke the 2-2 tie for what proved to be the game-winner, as well as the hatrick, when
Kristin Robeson delivered a corner kick right in front of the goal keeper that Bost was able to bring down and knock home to make it 3-2. In the 75th minute, Bost was at it again when
Rileigh Jo Evitts gave Bost a pass and the captain juked the defender and sent it past Widener's goaltender for the 4-2 lead.
Later, in the 78th minute, Evitts put the icing on the cake when she received a long kick and made a move on both the defender and the goalie and kicked it into the open net to make it a 5-2 match. The Pride added a goal with five seconds left, but LVC was able to hold on comfortably for the 5-3 win.
