How It Happened
Lebanon Valley fell by a 3-0 score to Messiah in each team's final regular season conference game of the 2016 season in a battle for the No. 2 seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament next week. The Dutchmen fell to 20-8, 6-2 MACC and the Falcons jumped to 24-6, 7-1 MACC.

The first set was close at 6-6 until a mini 6-3 run put Messiah on top at 12-9. LVC answered with three straight points to tie it at 12-12, only to see the Falcons go on a 10-6 run to go up 22-16. Messiah eventually took the opening set 25-17.

The second set was a game of runs, as the Dutchmen jumped out to a slight lead at 6-4, but the Falcons responded with a 6-0 run, including four kills, to overtake the lead at 10-6. However, it was LVC who then scored the next five points, including kills by Nina Mentzer, Amanda Sides, and Amber Deshong, to take an 11-10 advantage. Later, with LVC ahead 16-15, Messiah scored five in a row, which included three straight Emily Zellers service aces, for the 20-16 lead. The Falcons held on for the second-set 25-18 win.

LVC tried to stay in the third set in the early going and were down by just three at 12-9, but every time the Dutchmen got close, Messiah would always shut the door. The Falcons took the set 25-15 to clinch the match at 3-0.
