Volleyball Wins 20th Match of the Season

Lebanon Valley def. Lycoming 3-1 (25-17, 25-12, 26-28, 25-23)

How It Happened
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lebanon Valley won its 20th match of 2016 this evening when the Dutchmen defeated Lycoming 3-1 in MAC Commonwealth volleyball action. LVC jumped to 20-7, 6-1 MACC and the Warriors slipped to 14-17, 3-5 MACC.

The opening set was tight early on with the Dutchmen ahead 9-8. LVC began to slowly extend the lead and later held a 16-11 advantage and kept building the lead, eventually taking the set 25-17, capped by a Lycoming service ace.

The second set was close early, as it was tied at 8-8. LVC started pulling away and with the Dutchmen up 17-12, LVC scored the set's final eight points en route to the dominant 25-12 victory. In the second, the Dutchmen hit at a .348 clip with 10 kills and just two errors.

After the Warriors took a close third set at 28-26, Lyco scored the fourth set's first five points, only to see its lead evaporate thanks for four in a row from LVC. From then until it was 18-18, no team was able to pull ahead by more than two points. At 18-18, three straight LVC points, including two Morgan Webb service aces, made it 21-18 in favor of the Dutchmen. Later, Lyco came to within one at 23-22, but kills by Jess Attieh and Amanda Sides clinched the set and the match for LVC.

Inside the Numbers
 - Attieh paced the offense with 15 kills and Amber Deshong pitched in 11, followed by Greta Weidemoyer with 10.
 - Abbey Barnhart and Webb recorded a match-high six service aces and Weidemoyer added 24 assists with Erin Koons chipping in 15.
 - Barnhart led the Dutchmen with 13 digs.

20 Wins
LVC has now recorded at least 20 wins in four consecutive seasons.

Playoff Picture
LVC has clinched a spot in next week's MAC Commonwealth postseason. The Dutchmen's seed will be determined depending on the outcome of their match with Messiah on Thursday night. If LVC wins, it will be the No. 2 seed and will fall to the No. 3 seed with a loss to the Falcons.

Who's Next?
The regular-season finale takes place this Thursday in Sorrentino Gymnasium at 7 p.m. with the No. 2 seed up for grabs. LVC's regular season concludes on Saturday with a home tri-match against Cabrini and Lancaster Bible.
