How It Happened
CANTON, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley's volleyball team took part in the first day of the Canton Quad on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen edged out Oswego State 3-2 before cruising past SUNY Potsdam 3-0.
Oswego State Match
Against the Lakers, in the opening set, Oswego let 17-9 but LVC rattled off five straight points to come to within three points at 17-14. The Lakers, however, were able to hold off the Dutchmen and win the opening set 25-17. In a pivotal second set, the match was tied at 25-25. LVC was able to avoid going down 2-0 in the match and two consecutive attack errors clinched the second set for the Dutchmen at 27-25.
After Oswego barely won the third set at 25-23, LVC took the fourth set 25-20 to force a fifth and deciding set. The Dutchmen jumped out to a 7-2 advantage, capped off by a
Jess Attieh kill from
Greta Weidemoyer. The Lakers countered with a 6-1 run to tie the fifth at 8-8. The Dutchmen went back up at 14-11 and
Amanda Sides ended the match with a kill for the narrow 3-2 win.
Inside the Numbers
- Attieh (19) and Weidemoyer (18) were both in double digits in kills, while Sides added nine. Weidemoyer added 25 assists and 10 digs for the triple-double.

Melanie Phifer recorded a match-high six service aces and
Amber Deshong added two.

Morgan Webb led both squads in digs with 23.
SUNY Potsdam Match
The second match of the day was a much easier match for LVC. The Dutchmen's offense was on fire against the Bears, registering 19 kills as a team in the first set, 14 in the second, and 19 in the third. In the middle frame, LVC hit at a .542 clip overall, en route to the 25-10 second-set win.
Inside the Numbers
- Attieh once again led the offense with a match-high 16 kills, while Weidemoyer added 13 and
Nina Mentzer chipped in nine. Weidemoyer had 24 assists and 11 digs for yet another triple-double.

Abbey Barnhart each added 13 digs.
