How It Happened
READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley survived a five set match against Alvernia 3-2 and stayed undefeated in MAC Commonwealth action on Tuesday night in volleyball action. The Dutchmen improved to 15-5, 4-0 MACC, while the Crusaders dropped to 6-15, 1-5 MACC.
After Alvernia won the fourth set 28-26 to force a fifth, LVC came out and won four of the first five points to take an early 4-1 advantage. The Crusaders came to within two points at 6-4 off a kill, however the Dutchmen were able to rattle off five consecutive points, including two kills from
Amber Deshong and one from
Greta Weidemoyer, to go up by seven points at 11-4.
Alvernia battled back however, scoring the next three points followed by an LVC timeout. Deshong recorded another kill to make it 12-7 in favor of the Dutchmen, but two consecutive points from the Crusaders brought them back to within two at 12-9. Later, with LVC up 14-12 and on match point,
Nina Mentzer received a pass from Weidemoyer and registered the kill, clinching the set (15-12) and the match for the Dutchmen in exciting fashion.
Inside the Numbers
- Weidemoyer the led way with another triple double, going for 19 kills, 22 assists, and 12 digs.

Jess Attieh notched 13 kills, while Mentzer was also in double digits at 10.

Erin Koons led the Dutchmen with 28 assists, while
Morgan Webb was stellar with 31 digs.
Abbey Barnhart added 20 and
Melanie Phifer chipped in 12.
- LVC remains undefeated in conference action, along with Stevenson, who is 6-0. The Dutchmen host the Mustangs on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. in a pivotal conference matchup.
Who's Next?
LVC heads to Canton, N.Y. for the Canton Quad this Saturday and Sunday. The Dutchmen take on Oswego State on Saturday at 12 p.m. before battling SUNY Potsdam at 4 p.m. The Canton Quad finishes up Sunday at 10 a.m. when LVC plays SUNY Canton.
