How It HappenedANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley scored two first-half goals and never looked back as the Dutchmen defeated Eastern 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Herbert Field. LVC remains perfect with a 6-0 record, while the Eagles fell to 3-3-1.
Last year against Eastern, the Dutchmen scored less than 20 seconds into the match, and it nearly happened again today when
Taylor Kleeschulte hit a free kick which was caught by the goalie, however it popped out and LVC put home the rebound, however the side referee had called offsides before the goalie dropped it and negated the goal.
Nevertheless, the Dutchmen soon found the back of the net when
Rachel Cummings received an excellent cross from
Meghan Ross and beat Eastern's goalie Adrianna Swinehart on the left side to give LVC a 1-0 lead just over six minutes into action.
In the 33rd minute, the Eagles nearly tied the game when Emily Cole's shot from 20 yards out drilled the crossbar, but Eastern was unable to push it past
Taylor Reinhold.
In the 43rd minute, the Dutchmen increased the lead when Ross received a terrific header pass from
Sammy Bost which led to a breakaway where Ross beat Swinehart and LVC went into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
After the break, the Eagles came to within one in the 60th minute when Cole received a long pass from Courtney Davis and had a mini breakaway and kicked it past Reinhold on the left side to bring Eastern within one goal at 2-1.
In the 83rd minute, the Dutchmen put away the Eagles for good when
Kira Pushart connected on a penalty kick for her first collegiate goal as LVC went on to win 3-1.
