How It Happened Against SalisburyASTON, Pa. - A total team effort propelled LVC past Salisbury 3-1 in LVC's first match of the Neumann Knights Invitational on Friday night.
After losing the first set 25-21, the Dutchmen stormed back and won the next three sets by a 25-20 score to take the match 3-1 over the always-tough Seagulls. For the match, the squad registered an impressive 52 kills, including a set-high 16 in the third set.
As a team, LVC continued to light up the stat sheet in several categories. They totaled 12 service aces, including five from
Allie Garrett and three from
Rachel Moltz. Garrett and Moltz added 14 and nine digs, respectively, while Moltz had 32 assists in a thrilling come-from-behind victory for the Dutchmen.
Three players were in double digits in kills, as
Jess Attieh continued a terrific freshman season and totaled 17 kills, while
Greta Weidemoyer posted 14 and
Amber Deshong tallied 11. In the match, Attieh hit at a .469 clip and Deshong was at .429. Weidemoyer had a brilliant evening and posted a .650 hitting percentage and she added three blocking assists, while
Abbey Barnhart contributed two blocking assists and eight digs.
How It Happened Against SwarthmoreAfter a thrilling victory over Salisbury, LVC was dropped by Swarthmore 3-1. Attieh and Weidemoyer were in double digits in kills again, each with 13, while Deshong added eight more. Three Dutchmen had 10 or more digs that include Garrett (18), Moltz (14) and
Morgan Webb (10) and
Emily Sides posted eight.
Attieh and Weidemoyer had three blocking assists apiece and Moltz served two aces in the match, while Sides recorded 20 assists and Moltz added 16 more.
Inside the Numbers - Attieh compiled 30 kills in two matches and Weidemoyer had 27 with Deshong tallying 19.
 - Garrett had an impressive 32 digs in two matches tonight.
 - LVC's overall record now sits at 6-5.
Attieh Turning HeadsThe freshman is off to an incredible start in her LVC career. She has posted 10 or more kills in seven out of 11 matches this season and is a force to be reckoned with on the court.
Neumann Knights Invitational Concludes TomorrowThe Neumann Knights Invitational wraps up tomorrow when the Dutchmen go up against the host Neumann at 10 a.m. LVC's fourth and final opponent will depend on how the seven other competing teams fair. The match time is still yet to be announced.
