How It HappenedA late Lebanon Valley surge couldn't counteract Widener's big first half as the Pride won their Commonwealth Conference Tournament play-in game 9-6 in Chester.
The Dutchmen (8-8) remain eligible for ECAC Tournament consideration when the bracket is announced Monday. The fifth seed in the CC tourney, they were visiting the fourth-seeded Pride (7-9), who advance to face Stevenson in Wednesday's semifinals.
Alex BUshong and
Austin Minnich each scored a pair of goals, but the Pride used a four-goal second quarter to lead 7-3 at the half buoyed by Tim Taylor's three-goal, two assist game.
Widener led 3-2 in the first with LVC's goals coming from Bushong and
Koty Keefer, but a 3-0 Pride run opened the second before Minnich stopped the bleeding 3:42 from the half. A late Widener goal made it 7-3, and they scored the first two of the second half as well. The Dutchmen made it three in a row to end the game with goals by Bushong,
Mason Hoff, and a last-minute Minnich strike, but they ran out of time on the comeback attempt.
Notables- Bushong recorded his ninth multi-goal game of his rookie season, while had his second.
- Widener held a 34-27 edge in shots, leading 20-10 in the first half but trailing LVC 17-14 in the second.
- Face-offs proved to be key as Anthony Paone won 13-of-19 for Widener.
John Kolp and
Jeremy Beaver each won three for LVC.
- Lebanon Valley was making its third CC playoff appearance since the reformation of the program in 2010.

Eric Wilcoxson, who had a career-high 18 saves when the two teams met in the regular season, stopped nine in goal. Tyler McClary had eight stops in the win.
- The teams combined for seven flags and 5:30 of penalty time, but each cashed in only once on man-up opportunities. Bushong pocketed LVC's first goal from
Matt Lubawski 10 minutes into the game, and Widener' Tyler Schulte scored man-up a minute later.
