Game 1 Albright scored the final two runs to take game one of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader from Lebanon Valley by a 4-2 decision on Sunday afternoon.
After
Michael Puglisi's two-out, RBI single to left field drove in
Zach Smith to tie the score at 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning, Albright's Max Dundore had a clutch hit of his own in the bottom of the frame; a two-out, two-run home run to left-center field that gave the Lions a 4-2 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
The home team (10-9-1, 6-7 CC) got on the board quickly, plating a run in the bottom of the first but the Flying Dutchmen (8-13, 3-8 CC) drew even in the top of the third when
Zach Smith doubled to right center and drove in
Phill Dohner with two outs.
After reaching base on an error and swiping second base, Dundore scored his first run of the day, an unearned tally, in the bottom of the fourth when Daniel Louviaux singled down the left field line.
Game 2Evan High's three-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning spoiled Lebanon Valley's game two comeback bid and earned Albright the Commonwealth doubleheader sweep of the Flying Dutchmen by an 8-6 margin in the nightcap on Sunday afternoon.
High's bomb over the left field fence came with one out following a Dylan Boll triple and Max Dundore walk. LVC (8-14, 3-9 CC) had just erased a 5-3 deficit in the top of the sixth thanks to a
Jonathan Harned sacrifice fly that scored
Glenn Dietrich and
Zach Smith's clutch, two out single up the middle that drove in
Matthew Smarkanic and
Phill Dohner.
The Dutchmen struck first with a pair of first inning runs when
Zac Edwards' double drove in Dohner and
Michael Puglisi's sac fly plated Edwards four at-bats later.
The Lions (11-9-1, 7-7 CC) got one back in the bottom of the first but Lebanon Valley pushed its advantage back to two when
Devin Dellinger singled to left center and pushed Edwards across for the second time in the top of the third.
A lead-off triple enabled Albright to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the frame before the home team pulled ahead for the first time in the fourth. The Lions plated a pair with two down, including one of the unearned variety to claim the 4-3 advantage.
But the outcome wasn't decided until High's swing in the final stanza.
