How It HappenedLebanon Valley improved to 2-1 with a dominating 10-3 win over Mitchell on Saturday.
Freshman
Koty Keefer notched his second straight hat trick and
Alex Bushong and
Austin Minnich netted two goals apiece as Lebanon Valley held a commanding 54-9 shots advantage keyed by
Jeremy Beaver's 11-for-13 face-off performance.
Keefer scored twice in the first quarter along with Minnich's first to lead 3-1, and LVC added three more in the second on goals by Keefer,
Baker Landon, and
Brett Kudlak. Minnich and
Brian Kilonsky had third-quarter goals, and Bushong scored both of his in the fourth to end a 9-0 run that held the Mariners (0-2) scoreless for 49:26.
Eric Masterson faced only two first-half shots to earn the win;
Eric Wilcoxson played the second half and made two saves.
Notables- Keefer now has a team-best eight goals in his first three career games.
- Beaver turned in his second straight big game at the dot, winning 11 of 13 face-offs to power LVC's offense.
John Kolp had a strong 3-for-4 performance in relief.
- Freshman
Blake Weaver led a terrific defensive performance with three caused turnovers and seven ground balls.
Coleman Wagner had two takeaways and five ground balls, and
Zane Brown also had two caused turnovers with three scoops. The midfield transition limited Mitchell to a 13-for-27 clear rate and 33 turnovers in all.
- LVC outshot the Mariners 31-2 in the first half but only led 6-1 at the half as Mitchell goalie JD LeMay made 15 of his 22 saves in the first.
- The Dutchmen were 1-for-3 on man-up opportunities, and held Mitchell 0-for-1.
- Due to snow cover at Mitchell's field, the game was played at nearby Connecticut College's Selfin Field.
Stat of the Game14/17 - Face-offs won by LVC, its best rate since going 18-for-20 against Immaculata in 2013.
