How It HappenedA solid combined effort from Lebanon Valley pitchers
Casey Wall,
Corey Sell, and
Patrick Reagan and production from the top of the Flying Dutchmen lineup led to a 6-3 victory over Albright in the team's 2015 home and Commonwealth Conference opener Wednesday afternoon.
LVC (5-6, 1-1 CC) went up 2-0 early when clean-up hitter
Brett Fundell did his job, driving in
Zac Edwards and
Mike Puglisi with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.
Wall didn't allow a runner past third base during his time on the bump and sat the Lions (3-5, 1-3 CC) down 1-2-3 in the top of the third before working out of some trouble in the fourth.
The Dutchmen rewarded him in the bottom of the stanza with a four-run outburst.
Devin Dellinger singled,
Colin Albright walked, and
Jonathan Harned singled to lead off the bottom half and back-to-back singles by Edwards and
Zach Smith scored the trio.
Phill Dohner added LVC's fifth base hit of the inning and scored Edwards to make it 6-0.
Albright finally got going offensively in the sixth and used three hits and a Lebanon Valley error to post three runs, cutting the deficit in half with three frames left to play. But
Patrick Reagan allowed just one hit in his three innings of work from the rubber, earning his first save of the season and shutting down any chance of a Lion comeback.
