How It HappenedIt was an historic Wednesday afternoon at Herbert Field for Lebanon Valley's women's soccer team. The Dutchmen thrashed their MAC-Commonwealth opponent Lycoming by an 8-4 score. In addition to the lopsided victory, junior
Sammy Bost became the program's all-time leader in career points with 105 (42G, 21A) surpassing Nicole Snyder's (2009-12) 104 career points.
Bost got things going early on when
Teanna Shutt's shot deflected off the Warriors' goalie's hands and right to Bost for the easy rebound tally just seven minutes into the contest.
Kira Pushart later received a good feed from Bost and connected for her second goal of the season at the 17:45 mark of the first half.
Under three minutes later, Shutt scored off of an assist from
Johnna Garbrick, and Bost scored her second of the game at 29:48 off an assist from
Rachel Cummings to make it 4-0 in favor of the Dutchmen. Lycoming's Jordan Lazarich scored in the 35th minute thanks to a Meghenn Jackson assist to make it 4-1, but the Warriors had no answer for Bost's speed and ball-handling skills, as the junior tallied the hat trick and scored 33 seconds after Lycoming's goal for the 5-1 lead heading into the break.
Coming into the second half, Bost needed two assists or a goal to break the all-time points record, and head coach
Todd Hoffard let the junior know before the second half began. After
Laura Zimmermann made it 5-1 LVC in the 50th minute, Bost received a long pass from
Emma Longenecker in the 65th minute and kicked it up to herself and rocketed the ball past the goalie for her fourth goal of the game, and the 105th point of her career.
Sara Shissler scored in the 79th minute for the Dutchmen to finish out LVC's terrific afternoon, as they went on to handle the Warriors 8-4.
Inside the Numbers - Lycoming held the edge in shots at 22-18, but the Dutchmen lead in shots on goal at 12-11 and corner kicks at 3-1.
- Bost led the offensive attack with eight shots and five on net, while Shutt tallied three shots which were all on goal.
- Reinhold was credited with the win, as she played the first half and made three saves, while
Erin Angelini made four saves in the second.
There's No Stopping HerIt took Bost just under three seasons to accumulate 42 goals and 21 assists and break the all-time points record. With her four goals today, she's now just three goals from tying Nicole Snyder's program record of 45 and is tied for fifth in career assists with 21.
She had the second-most points in LVC history in a single game with nine, and tied for the second highest goal total with 4.
A Quote from the Coach"I am absolutely thrilled for Sammy", said first-year head coach
Todd Hoffard. "She's a great competitor with the fantastic work rate and she deserves all of the accolades she gets just based on her willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed".
Lots and Lots of GoalsEight goals is LVC's highest in a single game since their 8-0 trouncing of Widener back on Oct. 24, 2012.
