How It HappenedLebanon Valley held off a late charge by Alvernia to win its fourth straight, a thrilling 4-3 Homecoming contest, and stay undefeated in MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday night.
After the Crusaders (7-5, 1-2 MAC Commonwealth) erased a 3-0 halftime deficit late in the second half,
Brittany Fleisher came up clutch when she deflected
Rachel Gorman's shot past the Alvernia goalkeeper and into the back of the net for what proved to be the game-winner with just under four minutes left to play.
The Crusaders' Alexis Krall netted the equalizer in the 56th minute with a shot from right of goal after Natalie Messaros swung the momentum in favor of the visitors when she scored a pair of goals off penalty corners in the 36th and 52nd minutes, respectively.
Maddie Fox got the scoring started when her shot was deflected into the back of the goal by an Alvernia defender in the 12th minute. She added her second of the night less than a minute later when she hammered home her attempt past Crusader keeper Rebecca Brosius to make it 2-0 LVC (7-5, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) in the early going.
Lyndee Sheaffer converted her fourth score of the fall with 17:08 remaining in the first half when she chased down a long ball, outran an Alvernia defender, made a nice move to free herself around Brosius and pushed her shot across the goal line.
