LVC Drops Tight One To Widener; Sets School Record For Three-Pointers

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley dropped a tight road outing to Widener 75-68 on Wednesday night.  Freshman Kaitlyn Van Tash scored a career-high 18 points and the Flying Dutchmen set a school-record by netting 12 three-pointers in the defeat.

Taylor Umbrell recorded a double-double with 13 points, all of which came in the second half, and a game-high 12 rebounds while Peyton Carper continued her strong play off the bench with 13 points.

LVC (10-3, 2-3 Commonwealth) and the Pride traded the lead nine times in the first half with the Dutchmen grabbing their largest lead of the period at 12-10 following a Carper layup at the 11:08 mark.  Widener led by as many seven late in the stanza and took a 28-24 lead into the break.

Lebanon Valley trailed by as many nine early in the second half but used a 15-6 run over a five minute span to draw even at 39-39 when Carper connected from beyond the arc with 13:32 left to play.

Van Tash netted 12 of her team-high total in the final 20 minutes and her jumper midway through the second half put LVC back in front for the first time since early in the contest at 45-44.  Umbrell followed it up with a jumper on the team's next possession to give the visitors their largest lead of the second period.

After the Pride erased the deficit and reclaimed a one-point advantage with 5:37 remaining, Van Tash connected on one of her three long distance field goals, see-sawing the lead back in LVC's favor at 58-56 with 4:36 left to play.

Widener scored the contest's next six points.  An Umbrell jump shot stopped the bleeding momentarily, cutting the home team's lead to 62-60 at the 3:20 mark but LVC struggled to match the Pride bucket-for-bucket down the stretch.  Widener finished the game on a 13-8 run to earn a valuable conference victory.

The Dutchmen shot 40 percent from downtown (12-of-30; both numbers are program records) but were outshot from the field overall 50 percent to 37.3 percent.  The Pride converted 14 of 23 free throw attempts while LVC managed just 6-of-10 from the charity stripe and was outrebounded 40-34.  Lebanon Valley's bench continued its reliable play with 37 points but Widener dominated down low, scoring 50 points in the paint.

Bridget Rothert scored nine points, Alyssa Cirucci netted seven and swiped two steals, and Alex Lehman added six tallies on 3-3 shooting from the field.  In addition to her scoring output, Van Tash pulled in eight boards.

The Dutchmen are idle until next Wednesday night, Jan. 14, when they host league foe Lycoming at Sorrentino Gymnasium.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
