Dutchmen Overcome Arcadia Late, 82-76

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Kyler Burke's backdoor layup with 53 seconds left gave Lebanon Valley the lead for good as they downed Arcadia, 82-76, in Commonwealth Conference play on Saturday.

The Dutchmen (9-4, 3-1 CC) rang in the new year with a win as Kevin Agnew drained 31 points, including 22 in the second half, to go with six assists.

Burke added 13 and six rebounds, while Zach Mrozek was all over the court with 13 points, five boards, and five assists.

In a gritty, fast-paced game that featured six lead changes and 12 ties, LVC trailed as late as 3:42 in the second half after Arcadia erased a big early deficit.

Agnew matched his point total against Arcadia last season as the senior shot 10-of-19 overall and 9-of-10 from the line. LVC, one of the nation's top free-throw shooting teams, was held off the line until midway through the second half but ended up 12-of-14, shooting 48.4 percent overall and a solid 8-of-19 (42.1 percent) from beyond the arc. LVC held a 39-31 rebounding margin, led by Andy Orr, who corralled seven despite sitting long stretches with foul trouble in both halves.

The final four minutes featured frantic back-and-forth play. Arcadia led 66-65 before an Agnew layup and Travis Conrad's wide-open three-point look swung it to 70-66 in favor of LVC; two minutes later, it was tied after Ryan Kelley's three and Saltus' three-point play made it 72-72 with 1:19 to go.

The last minute was all Dutchmen, however. Mrozek found Burke on a backdoor cut with 53 seconds left to put LVC ahead, and Burke then found Agnew to go up four with a half-minute remaining. Saltus and Agnew traded free throws before Saltus made a layup with 15 seconds to go for what would turn out to be Arcadia's final points. Agnew was fouled and made both shots, then stole the inbounds and was sent to the line again to ice it.

LVC will visit Widener on Wednesday as they continue CC play.
