ANNVILLE, Pa. - A late push by Lycoming gave them a 76-69 win over Lebanon Valley in a match-up of the Commonwealth Conference's first- and second-place teams.
In a fast-paced game that featured 13 lead changes and nine ties, the Warriors (10-5, 6-1 CC) used a decisive rebounding advantage and a big night at the line to overcome the Dutchmen (10-5, 4-2 CC), who shot 50 percent for the game including 12 three-pointers.
Kevin Agnew drained a game-high 24 points with six three's, and
Andy Orr scored 17 on 6-of-9 shooting. Nykolas King keyed Lycoming's surge, dropping 18 points including two big buckets to break a 64-64 tie in the final minutes.
LVC shot 12-for-26 from beyond the arc and 26-for-52 overall, but only 5-for-10 at the line. Lycoming shot just 36.8 percent from the floor but made up for it with 19-of-21 foul shooting, and held a 46-30 lead on the glass.
The Dutchmen led by as much as 13 late in the first half, but an 11-0 run by Lycoming wrapped around halftime took away the advantage, and a pair of King free throws with 14:04 left made it 46-45 Warriors. Lycoming used a 6-0 run later in the half to take control of the game, but LVC answered with a
Travis Conrad three-pointer and
Nick Pappas' layup at 4:29 to tie and retake the lead 63-61.
After a Darius James longball and Orr's free throw tied it up, King hit back-to-back layups, first with 3:01 remaining and then again inside two minutes, to put the visitors ahead four. That would prove decisive despite a pair of Orr foul shots, as Patrick Dougher's three-pointer with 1:30 to go and five late free throws sealed it, with LVC going the final 4:29 without a field goal.
LVC stays at home to host Alvernia on Saturday.
