WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Flying Dutchmen won their fifth-straight match and picked up their second Commonwealth Conference victory of the season thanks to a 3-0 sweep of Lycoming on Tuesday night, Sep. 30. Lebanon Valley was in the driver's seat all night and won by set scores of 25-18, 25-11, and 25-16.
LVC recorded 30 total kills on the night with half of them coming in the match's second set. Sophomore
Greta Weidemoyer led the way with eight kills while junior
Emily Sides added six of her own. Senior captain
Kayla Confer and freshman
Nina Mentzer chipped in with five kills each. Mentzer's overall performance was one of the best of her young collegiate career.
Junior libero
Allie Garrett dug out a team-high 11 Lycoming attempts while sophomore
Rachel Moltz racked up seven digs of her own. Sides, senior captain
Kacey Musselman, and sophomore
Morgan Webb pitched in with four digs apiece. The Dutchmen were strong at the net defensively and totaled ten team blocks. Quirk and Confer each had solos.
Musselman, the team's primary setter, racked up 22 assists during the match; a number that put her over 4,000 for her career. She is just the second Dutchman in program-history to pull off that impressive feat.
"It was an inspiring team effort all the way around," said Lebanon Valley head coach Wayne Perry postgame.
The victory improved LVC to 15-3 on the year and 2-1 in conference play. Next up for the Dutchmen are a pair of matches this weekend against Eastern and Wilkes in a MAC crossover event being held at Stevenson. The match with the Eagles gets underway at 12 p.m. while first serve for the matchup with the Lady Colonels is set for 2 p.m.
