LVC Sweeps On First Night of Dutchmen Quad

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley started day one of the team's Dutchmen Quad on a high note by blanking Neumann 3-0 on Friday night, Sep. 26.  The Blue and White bested the Knights by set scores of 25-14, 25-8, and 25-17.

Neumann was hot out of the gate thanks to Kat Wolf's strong service run but LVC was able to break her serve and take control of the opening game.  After battling back and taking the lead midway through the set, the Flying Dutchmen pulled away late.

Set number two was all Lebanon Valley as the Flying Dutchmen jumped out to a big advantage and never looked back.  The Knights were unable to get their offense in sync and the hometown team took full advantage en route to their easiest victory of the match.

The third set saw the most competitive outing of the evening as LVC and Neumann traded points back and forth into the middle portion of the set.  With things still tight late, junior Emily Sides service run propelled the Dutchmen to complete the sweep.

Senior captain Kayla Confer and junior Alli Quirk led the way offensively with eight kills apiece while sophomore Greta Weidemoyer added six of her own.  Junior Emily Sides pitched in with five kills.

Junior Allie Garrett led the way defensively with 19 digs while Sides and senior captain Kacey Musselman added eight each.  Sophomore Morgan Webb dug out seven balls on the night.  Musselman, the reigning Commonwealth Conference women's volleyball Player of the Week, racked up 24 assists.  Quirk turned away two Neumann attempts by herself and assisted on two more while Weidemoyer also recorded a solo block.  Confer added a match-high four assisted blocks.

Bridgewater defeated Frostburg State 3-1 in the nightcap in a back-and-forth affair.  The hosts will face both squads on the final day of the Dutchmen Quad while Bridgewater and Frostburg will both get a crack at Neumann as well.

The win improved LVC to 12-3 on the season.  The Dutchmen will be back at it tomorrow morning when they face Frostburg State in their opening match of the Quad's second day.  First serve at Sorrentino Gymnasium is scheduled for 11 a.m.
