SELINSGROVE, Pa. -
Lyndee Sheaffer scored twice in the first half to push #19 Lebanon Valley past Susquehanna, 2-1, and improve to 8-0.
The Dutchmen continued their best season start since 2011 with the road win, which is their seventh away from Arnold Field this season. LVC is in the midst of a six-game road trip, and will play eight of its first nine games on the road.
Sheaffer pushed her team-best scoring tally to nine with her pair, which came in a 2:40 span midway through the second half to break a scoreless tie. The Dutchmen dominated the flow of the game, outshooting Susquehanna (5-5) 16-6, including 10-4 in the second half.Â
After a scoreless first half, LVC pushed the tempo in the second and drew a string of penalty corners, which finally paid off at 48:32.
Maddie Fox's corner injection went to
Lauren Brumbach, who sent the ball in for Sheaffer to pick out of the scramble and take the 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Sheaffer broke free of her marker and beat the keeper on the breakaway to double the advantage.
Susquehanna made things interesting when Megan McClellan scored off a corner at 62:50, but
Kendra Moll saved another McClellan shot a minute later and LVC ran out the clock.
Moll had a pair of saves to pick up the win, while Alyssa Rothman stopped seven for the Crusaders. LVC led 9-6 on penalty corner opportunities.
LVC begins Commonwealth Conference play this Saturday at Hood, and returns home to host Misericordia on Sept. 30.
