Dutchmen Split On Final Day Of Blue Jay Classic

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – After dropping just their third match of the year to Johns Hopkins 3-1 earlier in the day, Lebanon Valley rebounded nicely with a 3-1 victory over York (Pa.) in the team's final match at Elizabethtown's Blue Jay Classic on Saturday, Sep. 20.  The Flying Dutchmen defeated the Spartans 25-20, 24-26, 25-21, and 25-15.

Senior captain Kayla Confer took center stage offensively thanks to her match-high 14 kills.  After turning in a career-best performance one night earlier, sophomore Greta Weidemoyer picked up where she left off and drove home 13 kills of her own.  Junior Emily Sides added eight while junior Alli Quirk chipped in with five.

The Dutchmen got strong defensive efforts from a variety of players including senior captain Kacey Musselman (who was named to the all-tournament team), junior Allie Garrett, and sophomores Rachel Moltz and Shelby Barnes.  Musselman dug out a match-best 14 Spartan attempts while Garrett and Moltz racked up 13 digs apiece.  Barnes reached the double digit dig mark with 11 and Sides just missed getting there as well with nine.  As a team, LVC turned away six total York (Pa.) attempts at the net.  Musselman, the squad's main setter, also tallied 36 assists and the Dutchmen's lone solo block of the match.  She was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.

After sweeping the host Blue Jays and Swarthmore on Friday night, the 1-1 effort on Saturday put Lebanon Valley at 11-3 on the season.  The Dutchmen remain 1-1 in Commonwealth Conference play.  LVC next takes the court this Friday, Sep. 26 when they host Neumann at Sorrentino Gymnasium.  First serve is set for 6 p.m.
