LVC Ends Scoring Drought With Win Over Susquehanna

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley ended their recent two game scoring drought thanks to a big first half against Susquehanna on Wednesday evening at Herbert Field.  The Flying Dutchmen got early scores from freshman Tyler Skye and sophomore Gabe Stasyszyn and held off a late Crusaders' push en route a 2-1 victory.

After going a combined 200 minutes without netting a goal in their previous two outings, the Dutchmen wasted little time getting on the board against Susquehanna.  In the game's ninth minute, Skye made a move through a gaggle of defenders and forced Crusader goalkeeper Zach Zoller out of the net.  With the visitors' keeper completely out of position, Skye calmly tapped his shot into the back of an empty net and gave LVC an early lead.

In the 27th minute, Lebanon Valley was on the attack again deep in Susquehanna territory.  Junior Brian Lowe worked the ball into the Crusader box, made a move past his defender and set up a two-on-one opportunity with Stasyszyn that the pair executed to perfection.  Lowe's pass found Stasyszyn's foot and Stasyszyn's attempt found the twine and extended the Dutchmen's advantage to 2-0.

Susquehanna made a push after the break, upping their aggressiveness and being rewarded for it when David Aurand dove towards the LVC goal and struck home a ball from Tyler McKenna, cutting the deficit in half in the 54th minute.

The Crusaders continued their intense play throughout the second half but the Dutchmen defense made plays when needed.  Freshman keeper Cam Avery, the reigning Commonwealth Conference men's soccer Defensive Player of the Week, made ten stops on the afternoon.

With the win, Lebanon Valley got back to the .500 mark and now sits at 3-3-1 on the season.  The Dutchmen are next in action this weekend when they travel to Wilkes for another non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, Sep. 20.  Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
