ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Lebanon Valley got it done early. Muhlenberg got it done late. The Flying Dutchmen and hometown Mules battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw in a matchup of NSCAA top ten regionally ranked programs under the lights on Tuesday night.
LVC sophomore
Sammy Bost scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the game's third minute on a turn-and-shoot combination from the top of the box, but Muhlenberg's Colleen Touhey netted the equalizer in similar fashion in the 79th minute.
An apparent Lebanon Valley gamewinner in overtime was negated by an offsides penalty and neither squad was able to push one into the back of the net in either of the extra sessions.
Muhlenberg peppered the Dutchmen defense all night, firing off 24 total shots, 11 of which were on target, compared to just 12 shots for the visitors, only three of which were on goal. LVC sophomore goalkeeper
Taylor Reinhold proved to be game by making nine saves.
Aside from Bost's score, freshmen
Meghan Ross and
Emmie Santoleri accounted for Lebanon Valley's other shots on goal. Freshman
Teanna Shutt and senior
Amanda Douglass got off three and two attempts, respectively, but none found their target on this night.
With the tie, the Dutchmen now sit at 4-1-1 on the season. LVC is next in action on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 20 when they face Eastern in their second straight road game.
