ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to Haverford on Saturday at a sopping Herbert Field. Despite playing shorthanded for nearly 15 minutes late in the game, the Fords took advantage of an opportunity in the 87th minute when Tejan Walcott put home the gamewinner off a cross from Ben Field.
After a red card apiece put each team a man down, Haverford's Colin Seitz's second yellow card sent him to the bench early and gave the Flying Dutchmen a man advantage with 17 minutes left to play. LVC got off three shots in the next three minutes but Fords' goalkeeper Sam Miller turned away two targeted attempts and watched the third sail wide right.
Miller stopped a
Connor McDonald shot in the 86th minute and started a Haverford break towards the Dutchmen net. Field marched the ball towards the left side of the box and made a cross that Walcott was able to strike past LVC keeper
Cam Avery, the lone blemish on an otherwise superb performance by the freshman goalie.
Avery's shining moment came when he made a series of incredible saves while being pummeled by numerous reckless Haverford attempts following a free kick in the 67th minute. The frosh turned away all comers and overcame some chippy play to make ten saves on the day.
In a physical contest that saw a total of four yellows and three reds handed out, Lebanon Valley had their chances. The Dutchmen fired nine shots on goal and were aggressive on the offensive end down the stretch but failed to convert.
The loss dropped LVC to 2-3-1 on the season. Following two straight scoreless outings, the Dutchmen will look to get things rolling offensively when they host Susquehanna in their next matchup on Wednesday evening, Sep. 17.
