Field Hockey Upsets #20 Lynchburg, Improves To 5-0

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Second-half goals by Molly Van Leuvan and Lauren Brumbach lifted Lebanon Valley to a 3-1 upset of #20 Lynchburg, pushing LVC's record to 5-0 this season.

The Dutchmen found a way to win in an evenly-matched battle, taking a first-half lead on Maddie Fox's goal before the Hornets (2-3) leveled things to start the second half. LVC's defense came up big as Kendra Moll made nine saves. LVC held a 20-18 shots advantage while the hosts were up 14-13 on corners.

Fox put Lebanon Valley up in the 25th minute, cleaning up a penalty corner from Kelsey Heck's pass after Morgan Vasiliu's attempt was saved. The half ended 1-0, but Lynchburg found its equalizer 28 seconds into the second half when Katie Kline scored from Kelsey Link.

The knot didn't last long as Van Leuvan scored from open play at 39:23, and Brumbach padded the lead four minutes later with Lynchburg a player down on a card.

The win was LVC's second in a row over a ranked Lynchburg after beating the then-16th ranked Hornets 3-0 in Annville last year, with Van Leuvan also scoring in that game.

The Dutchmen head to upstate New York to take on St. Lawrence in the William Smith Tournament Sept. 20.
