ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley had some quality chances down the stretch but failed to convert them as the Flying Dutchmen fought to a 0-0 double overtime draw with Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday evening at LVC's Herbert Field.
The Dutchmen were the aggressors as the game wore on and controlled the time of possession for much of the extra sessions but unfortunately they could not find the back of the net.
LVC sophomores
Gabe Stasyszyn and
Alex Detweiler got off two shots on goal apiece but the combination of Eastern Mennonite's Andrew Yoder and Matthew Overacker as the last line of defense in goal turned away all comers.
Dutchmen freshman
Cam Avery did his part in net as well and made six saves on the night, including a tremendous outstretched stop of the Royals' Juan Luna off a corner kick that Avery redirected off the post above him in the 63rd minute.
The Blue and White outshot the visitors 26-14 overall but only eight of those attempts were on target. The Dutchmen's best scoring chance in the final minutes came when freshman
Matt Prince dribbled through traffic and created enough space to fire off a shot just outside the Royals' box. Unfortunately, his offering sailed just high of the crossbar.
Following this evening's tie, Lebanon Valley now sits at 2-2-1 on the young season. The Dutchmen are next in action this Saturday when they host Haverford in non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
