LANCASTER, Pa. -
Amanda Douglass' first-half stunner and a pair of late
Sammy Bost goals propelled Lebanon Valley past Franklin & Marshall, 3-0, in the season opener.
The win was interim head coach
Rachel Biggar's first in charge of the Dutchmen (1-0), who started four freshmen in a new-look lineup against the Diplomats (0-2).
It was two veterans who provided the scoring punch, however, starting with Douglass' half-field bouncer in the 23rd minute. She launched a spectulative ball towards goal that caught Caroline Letner off her line and bounced over her head for a 1-0 halftime lead.
F&M put on the pressure to start the second half and appeared to equalize in the 74th minute, but had the goal pulled back on offsides. Bost added a cushion in the 84th minute, drawing a foul in the box and beating Letner for the penalty kick before she scored on a wild rebound with 19 seconds left.
Taylor Reinhold and the LVC defense worked a shutout, with Reinhold stopping a pair of shots as LVC held a 9-5 shots advantage. F&M led 3-2 on corners, and Bost led LVC with four shots.
LVC will open up at home Wednesday, hosting Misericordia at Herbert Field.
