Lebanon Valley 7, Elizabethtown 5
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - A fourth-quarter rally helped Lebanon Valley pick up a valuable Commonwealth Conference win, beating Elizabethtown 7-5 on Saturday.
The Dutchmen (6-4, 2-2 CC) got locked into a defensive battle with the Blue Jays (4-6, 0-3 CC) with a 1-1 halftime score, but four fourth-quarter goals keyed a comeback while the defense, led by
Mike Moll's 11 saves, shut the Jays down.
After
Malik Pedroso's first-quarter goal was canceled out by Jason Clough later in the half, both offenses found their stride in the third quarter.
Matt Roupe scored the first of his two goals 30 seconds into the half before two straight by E-town took the lead 3-2, but
Scott Travers notched his sixth of the year with 40 seconds left in the third to tie it 3-3.
Jordan Mayr cashed in an extra-man opportunity to start the fourth and get LVC a 4-3 lead that Dennison added to moments later. Pedroso answered Craig Hunsberger's score to make it 6-4, and after E-town's Russ LeClair scored with 4:07 left, Moll made a key save and LVC cleared to let Roupe score an insurance goal with 59 seconds left. Moll made one final save, with 12 seconds left, to preserve the win.
Travers had another excellent game on the dot, going 11-for-15 on face-offs. LVC trailed 33-29 on shots, but led 11-4 on face-offs and held E-town to 0-for-3 on extra-man chances. Elizabethtown's Chris Wenger had nine stops in the loss.
Lebanon Valley will visit Albright on Wednesday night.
