#3 Stevenson University 14, Lebanon Valley College 5
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team hung tough for most of the day, but fell to third-ranked Stevenson on Saturday afternoon at Arnold Field on Senior Day, 14-5.
Trailing 7-2 going into the halftime break, two Stevenson goals out of the locker room looked to be enough to put the Valley away for the remainder of the game. However, a 4-1 spurt from the Dutchmen, including two tallies from senior
Matt Roupe gave LVC life, trailing 10-5 with 1:42 remaining in the third.
Unfortunately, the fifth Lebanon Valley tally, a man-up snipe from senior
Malik Pedroso, proved to be the final one as the Mustangs put the only four goals on the board in the fourth to close the game out with a 14-5 victory.
Prior to the game, LVC's 13-man senior class was honored with a special ceremony. Among the honorees were
Alex Beard,
Bryan Cooney,
Andrew Dennison,
Kevin Krasley,
Andrew Kruter,
Ryan Lanigan,
Jordan Mayr,
Mike Moll,
Jake Occhiogrosso, Pedroso, Roupe,
James Sylvester, and
Scott Travers.
Roupe's pair of third-quarter markers were two of three for him on the day, leading the Valley attack. Additionally, Pedroso added an assist to his goal for two points and junior
Matt Lubawski chipped in with two assists.
Senior
Mike Moll was excellent in goal, posting an LVC record 23 saves on the day on 56 shots faced in the loss. Stevenson's Dimitri Pecunes stopped seven LVC shots in the win.
The Mustangs kept coming in waves offensively, recording 56 shots on the day compared to 21 for the Valley and led 53-39 in ground balls. The Stevenson ride gave the Dutchmen fits as LVC was just 18-for-32 in clear attempts on the afternoon.
Next up is a trip to Frederick, Md. on Thursday to take on Hood at 4 p.m.
